Seal of Biliteracy
Subject: World Language
The State of Colorado passed Senate Bill 17-123, enabling school districts to award a diploma endorsement in biliteracy to any graduate who attains proficiency in English and another language. Earning the seal of biliteracy recognizes students for their dedication to learning multiple languages and cultures.
Value and benefits of earning the Colorado Seal of Biliteracy:
- To encourage students to study languages
- To honor the diversity that exists within Adams 12 Five Star Schools
- To prepare students with the skills they need to excel and thrive in a global community
- To enable students to showcase their language proficiency to colleges, universities and employers
Increasingly, colleges and employers are seeking graduates who are able to speak, read and write in multiple languages. We launched the Adams 12 Seal of Biliteracy to encourage students to maintain their heritage languages while learning English, as well as to encourage English-speaking students to learn additional languages. We have aligned our bilingual programs to the requirements of the Seal in order to increase the number of students who graduate fully bilingual.
Who can earn the Seal? Is it just for English learners or Spanish speakers?
The seal is for all students who demonstrate mastery in multiple languages using the approved criteria, not just English learners or Spanish speakers. Come see Mr. Itskovsky in Room 228 or email its013790@adams12.org
